Oh, Wow!

Wow!  It has been a little while since I put anything new here.  Since last weekend was a three-day weekend, you wouldn’t think that would be the case.  One would think that I had extra time off so it would  have been easy to post something new.  But, no.  When I have an extra day, I fall into the trap of thinking I have all the time in the world, and then very little gets accomplished.  So today, I will post two things.  The first is the Valentine I made for some of my work friends.  It was a simple little Ghirardelli candy holder that I made using the envelope punch board.

Sharing in Your Sorrow

It is always sad when someone passes away.  But I think it is even more sorrowful when someone young dies.  Yesterday, I had the occasion to attend a young person’s memorial service.  I didn’t know the deceased person at all, but the young man’s father is my husband’s Air Force buddy.   So, we attended the service for the family.  That’s why we do the things we do when someone passes.  We do them for the family and dear friends that are left behind.  We have funerals, not for the dead, but for the living.  We cry, not for the deceased, but for ourselves because we have lost someone we loved,  and we must now live without that person’s presence in our lives.

As a mother of two adult children, the youngest soon to be 27 and the oldest currently 29, I CAN NOT  imagine what it must feel like to have out-lived a child.  I know that I have felt some pretty heavy heart ach when my children have experienced hurt.  I know what it feels like when my children come home to visit, and then a few days later leave again.  I miss them.  But would I survive the ach of loosing a child?  My heart was heavy most of yesterday after attending this service, but not for me.  As I mentioned, I did not know this young 23-year-old man who passed away.  I won’t know what it is like to miss him.  But my heart was heavy for his parents who I also don’t really know.  All I can do is put myself in their shoes and imagine what the ach must feel like.  For them and their heart ach, I am truly sorry.

Snow Day No. 2

It is the second straight day for sub-zero temps here in Colorado Springs, so needless to say, schools are closed again today.  My husband and I went out for breakfast this morning at around 8:00 and my ears began to ach from the cold for the two minutes it took to get from the car to the restaurant.  It was a good call to close school, as many students walk,  and some would arrive dressed inappropriately.  On Tuesday of this week, it was snowing and very cold,  and I had a student show up to first block in shorts and a t-shirt.  I asked him if he had a coat in his locker and his response was, “No.”  That was how he had arrived at school because he was, “In a hurry.”  Yikes!  I wanted to ask him if one of his parents had seen him before he left that morning, but I didn’t dare.  You never know a students situation at home.  But then, you do need to take into account the age of the student…14 years old…, and many kids that age have had their brains stolen by aliens, and we wonder when they will be returned? Around age 30, if we are lucky, I would guess.  LOL!

Here is another card I’ve worked on over the last two days.  I realized I need something somewhat masculine for an upcoming birthday and this is what I came up with.  Hope you like it.

Snow Day!

Along with probably the rest of the United States, we have a snow day here in Colorado Springs!   Yip…Yip…Yippie!!!!!  My older sister, a teacher in Ohio, also has a snow day today.  Then I heard from a friend in Connecticut, and she is off work today too.  What crazy cold weather we are having across our nation.  But here in Colorado, if we ARE going to have a snow day, it usually comes in January.  Believe me, though, snow days in my school district are few and far between!  I’ve had to drive in to work on days where the weather was so bad every other school district across the city is closed, but not mine!  No, they’d rather take their chances loading their busses with kids and sliding off the road somewhere.  Or better yet, a few weeks ago, it was so bad a car slid into one of our busses loaded with kids when every other district in town had a two-hour delay.  I sometimes think the people who manage to make it to the top (in any field) forget what it was like when they were a peon like me.  That is when it is time for them to move over, in my opinion, and let someone else who remembers take over.

So I know I sound like I am not, but I am VERY THANKFUL that I didn’t have to go into work today.  It was -17 degrees here this morning with a wind chill of -23.  Good call on everyone’s part.  I am fortunate to have a warm home to be in with a husband and children that love me.

Snow has been shoveled, floors have been cleaned so I won’t have to this weekend, and now it is time to share a card with you.  I am calling this one Perfect Pennants Love.  This card is note-card size which means the Crumb Cake card stock is cut at 3.5″ x 5″.
