Toil & Trouble

I am not one for Halloween.  I never was a good parent as far as this holiday goes when my children were little.  I always hated the thought of dressing my kids up in costumes and dragging them (or should I say them dragging me) door to door gathering candy from strangers.  I did it mostly because it was the right thing to do so they would have some of the same good childhood memories I have when it comes to trick-or-treating.  The terrible parent in me always viewed it as a hassle, and I still do.  No, I don’t have to take my kids door-to-door anymore.  They are too big for that.  If it wasn’t for my husband, I wouldn’t buy Halloween candy and hand it out.  I guess you could say I am the “Halloween Grinch” or witch…I make no apologies…it is just how I feel.  Give me any other holiday, and I will do it up big, but I never liked Halloween.  Until I saw this adorable stamp set!  It is called Toil & Trouble from Stampin’ Up!’s holiday catalog.  Take a look.

What do you think?  I think I am going to have to make a few more Halloween cards for the “little people” in my life and a few of the bigger ones too.  It was fun doing this one, and I have a few other stamp sets that I want to try out.  Sometimes it takes growing older to realize how “dumb” we were when we were younger.  I realize now I should have enjoyed this holiday a little more with my children.  Hopefully, their childhood memories of this day are better than the ones I have of their childhood on this holiday.  Until next time…

Happy Stamping!

Miracle of Miracles

I can’t believe I actually got into my stamp room today!  You don’t know how early I had to get up to do that, though.  I got all of my stuff done yesterday and early this morning so that I could spend a few hours in there this afternoon.  Actually, I HAD to get in there today to make a 2nd birthday card for our granddaughter BEFORE we went to her party today.  Good excuse, I think.  I ended up making this birthday card and a Halloween card that I will share with you next week.  Before I show you the card, I want to mention something about the colors.  I used these colors which are now retired because they were the colors we used when we had her baby shower two years ago before she was born; Regal Rose and Lucky Limeaide.  I thought it would add a nice touch to the card.

Here it is…

Delightful Dozen Christmas Flip Card

I am back from my two-week hiatus, and I am feeling a little bit overwhelmed!  Just because I’ve been gone doesn’t mean I have actually been sitting idle.  Last weekend my husband and I went back to Ohio for my first cousin‘s 50th wedding anniversary.  His children gave him and his wife an awesome party in Akron.  It was great to see cousins and friends that I haven’t seen in YEARS, and that is no exaggeration!  I even had the opportunity to meet for the first time some of my cousins’ children .  The sad part about that is these “children” now have children of their own that are entering college.  Jeesh!  I am getting old!

I may have mentioned in an earlier post that I was a flower girl in this cousin’s wedding when I was 6-years-old.  They had their old wedding album there and I managed to take a photo of a photo of their bridal party.  I know who a few of the people are in the photo, but not everyone.  I also didn’t realize that movie cameras were available to the general population in 1963 and movies of their wedding were done.  Their children had the movie converted to dvd and I got to see myself in action as a 6-year-old and my older sister when she was 8.  I must say we were two cute kids.  LOL!  Anyway, here’s a shot of the wedding party.

Tony & Ria Wedding

The card I am sharing with you today is a Christmas card I made for an upcoming class I will be doing.  I love these new Thinlits Card Dies.  They are…to DIE for!  LOL!  I used the Label Card Thinlits Die.  There is also a Circle Card Thinlits Die that makes a flip card as well.  Its item number is 133480.

Modern Medley Starburst

Hope everyone’s holiday weekend has been a relaxing and fun one.  It was quiet around here today.  I spent most of my day in my stamp room.  I spent yesterday afternoon with my favorite daughter (I only have one).  We went downtown and had a nice lunch and caught up on each other’s lives.  It had been a few weeks since we spent more than 5 minutes in the same room.  After lunch, we did a little shopping and then it was home to relax the rest of the day.

Life’s been pretty hectic since I went back to work 3 weeks ago, but I am finally getting back into the routine and I should be able to get a little more stamping done than I have been.  A short trip is in my future as my husband and I head off to see my cousin and his wife who are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.  I was 6 years old and a flower girl in their wedding when they got married.  I think 50 years is an big milestone since most people don’t make it that long!  I am looking forward to reacquainting myself with family members that I haven’t seen in a few years.

Today, the card I am sharing is my first attempt at making one of those starburst cards.  I think I did all right with it except for one thing.  Can you see what it is that I did wrong?  If you can’t then I won’t point it out.  Just remember…I’ll be doing another one soon and then you can put them side-by-side to compare.  Here’s the card and what I used to create it.  I think I will have to do a tutorial on it my next post.  Anyway…
