I’m back! I know it has been two weeks since I last posted. I am still here, just a little behind, that’s all. 🙂
Last Friday, May 23, was my official last day of school for this year. I had stuff created and ready for posting, I just hadn’t done any photographing. Also, since it was the holiday weekend, my husband and I spent it by taking a trip to Glenwood Springs, CO with a couple we know. The weather was GORGEOUS! And, the hot springs was awesome. It was nice to get away even though it was just an overnight trip. I needed a day of rest and relaxation by the pool after the long school year. I can’t believe that next year when I go back, it will be my last year of teaching after 17 years. I’ve decided to retire and start a new chapter in my life. I expect you will be expecting me to create and post things a little more often. I think I might be able to manage it.
We got home from Glenwood Springs last Sunday evening. On Monday, even though it was a holiday, I got right to work. And it has been non-stop all week! It culminated yesterday with my husband and I with a great deal of help from my 26-year-old son, constructing a storage shed in our backyard.
My husband and I got this crazy idea that we needed a backyard shed because as we were cleaning out the garage on Tuesday, we couldn’t believe how much “stuff” we’ve accumulated over the 13 years we’ve been married. So…on Wednesday we went to COSTCO and bought one of their Lifetime sheds. It looked easy enough to assemble. After getting my son to haul it to our home in his truck, we started talking. “Yes”, he said, “you do need a foundation to set it on. You can’t just set it up on the ground.” Ok, so much for getting by with spending a “little” money. On Friday, he came back with his truck and we went to Home Depot to buy everything we needed to build a foundation. We started right to work building this shed as soon as we got home. That’s when my life changed. I became the “Gofur”. I had to gofur this tool, and that tool, and this thing and that thing, along with sitting on this board to hold it steady while my son drilled and hammered, and standing on that one while he did the same. I hate being the gofur. I was the gofur when I was a kid whenever my dad did anything outside around the house. Gofur status is for kids; not adults. That’s why you have kids in the first place anyway, isn’t it? 🙂 So they can be your personal slaves, like when you sit down on the couch in the evening and you can’t find the remote so you say to your child, “Where did you put the remote? You better find it for me right now!” My dad had a remote, way back in the 60’s when I was a child, even before remotes were invented! It was me. He’d sit in front of the televesion, walk right past it to get to his chair, and he would yell, “Josanna…come and turn on the tv. No, I don’t want to watch that; change the station.” At any rate…we got the foundation and the walls of the shed erected yesterday and today I could hardly move. My body hasn’t bent and turned and twisted into the positions I was in yesterday in ages. As we were building, I mentioned that this shed would make a great apartment for my daughter. That’s another story that I will tell next time. Enough of this…you are here to see my creation. Well, here it is.
