Easter Watercolor

Yes, I know.  It has been over a week since I was last here.  It seems I was better at keeping my word about posting once a week last year and not this year.  And here I was thinking of picking up my posting to twice a week after May.  Why after May, you  ask?  Well, because after May I will be R-E-T-I-R-E-D.  I’m not excited about that thought or anything like that.  Right now we are on Spring Break.  This is my LAST Spring Break from work.  When I go back to work on Monday, I will have approximately eight weeks of work left, that’s 37 week/work days…36 if you don’t count the random day we get off in April.  That means I have about one month of work left.  But I just want to make one thing perfectly clear…I AM NOT COUNTING!  Enough said.  LOL!  🙂

My post today is one of a set of five that I have for you.  This and the next four are made using the beautiful Watercolor Wonder Designer Note Cards (133362) found in the Occasions Catalog.  If you don’t have this packet of note cards, then you need to get it.  You get 20 printed cards on watercolor paper; 4 each of 5 designs for only $12.95.  Now that is 20 cards for less than a dollar each.  Where are you gonna buy a nice card for so little.  I love these note cards…they are beautiful, and I really enjoyed decorating them for you.  I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoyed decorating them.  So here you go, note card number 1.  If these colors don’t remind you of spring…

Happy Watercolor Blue and Green

For me, the colors blue and green represent the end of winter and the very beginning of spring.  Things aren’t quite in full bloom, but they are just getting started.  Sometimes the sky is blue, and the sun is shining.  Green things are just starting to push their heads up above ground, like my tulips in my front flower bed.  Hopefully we won’t have what happened last spring.  My tulips started peeking their little green heads above ground and then we had a really bad snow and freeze at the end  April.  That was it for the tulips.  The same goes for the tomatoes we planted in the garden.  The rule of thumb here in Colorado Springs is you don’t plant anything until after Mother’s Day.  If you do, you run the risk of re-planting.  That’s what happened last year.  We had beautiful weather, so we planted early and ended up planting again.  That is one thing I miss about living in Ohio where I am from. Leaves on trees should be about ready to pop now.  Not here…trees remain leaf-less until the end of May.  We have even had snow here at the end of May.  I’ve been told it can even happen in June.  I’ve not seen it snow in Colorado Springs in June, but I do remember snow at a little higher elevation than here during that month.

So today’s card uses the same stamp set and designer series paper as last week and reminds me a lot of this time of year.

Scallop Tag Topper Punch Card & Tutorial

Hey everyone!  Again, it has been too long since my last post.  I don’t know where the weekends go these days.  The first weekend I spent a day at a Crop and Shop that my Principal sponsored as a fundraiser for one of our clubs, and this past weekend…well, I just don’t know where the time went.  My daughter did come down to visit from Ft. Collins on Saturday and we spent most of that day together, but she was out all day on Sunday.

I had this card done about two weeks ago, but I didn’t want to post it until I had completed a tutorial for it.  That is my goal in the very near future; to provide you with more tutorials on the projects I post here.  In exactly 8 weeks I will be a RETIRED :)teacher, so I will have the time to spend on creating tutorials for my readers/customers.  It is a new phase in my life that I am very much looking forward to.  I won’t be looking for work outside of my home any time soon.  Oh yes, I do plan on subbing next school year, and I would eventually like to teach in a community college somewhere, but the summer will definitely be mine along with most of the rest of the year.

Anyway, here’s the card I am sharing.

Tag Punch Card

Here’s how to make it:

1.  Cut a piece of card stock just as you would for any regular 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ card.  Place your 8-1/2″ x 11″ card stock on your paper-cutter with the long edge at the top.  Cut at 5-1/2″.  (See photo below.)

Tag Punch Card - 1

2.  Mark  the half-way mark on each short edge of card stock base.  The short edge is the 4- 1/4″ edge.  The center or half-way mark would be at 2-3/4″.  (See photo below.)

Tag Punch Card - 2

3.  Insert each short edge of the card base into the tag punch making sure to align the half-way mark with the center of the punch.  Punch out the card stock. (See next two photos.)

4.  After each short edge is placed into the tag punch and punched, your piece of card stock base will look like the photo below.  The next thing you will need to do is remove the excess card stock on either side of the tab you just created with the punch.

5.  Place your card base onto your paper trimmer aligning the “valleys” next to each side of the tag punch with the cutting line on your paper trimmer.  (See the next two photos.)

6.  Cut off the “extra” paper next to each tag you punched.

7.  Once each side is trimmed, you will have a piece of card stock that looks like this:

8. Now place the long edge of your base across the top of your paper trimmer, lining up the edge at the 4-1/4″ mark.  Make a score line.

9.  Place the opposite long edge along the top of your paper trimmer, and score along the bottom of the tag.

Tag Punch Card - 11

10.  Now you have a card base for a 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ card.  You can decorate it as you like.
